In this phase
your body should be able to respond quite well with very little
issues. For the first few days you will get hunger pangs but you
can easily resolve this by drinking more water. You extra
consumption of fiberous vegetables should also prevent this from
happening too much. Your mood should be ok but you have to be aware
that you will generally be slightly grumpier than normal because of
the calorie restriction. You might be more sensitive than normal so
you must fight the urge to lash out a people.
Dieting
Phase
It is at this phase that the real hard dieting will occur. With the
progress that you have made in the induction phase you will now
have to pull back your calories to 40% - 60% depending on how much
that you can stand it. If you are quite obese and quite a large
eater then cutting back by 60% will mean your diet isn’t
particularly harsh on your body. If you are already quite a small
eater then 60% might be impossible for you to sustain and 40% will
be a more suitable number for you. The slimming diet generally
recommends that you start with 60% reduction first so that you can
see if you can take it before going less.
You should be
aiming to continue this phase until you reach the desired weight
you are looking for. As with the induction phase you should be
looking at a 1 week on 1 week off schedule so you don’t put your
body into too much stress. Because of the added stress from the
restrictions of this phase your mind and body will be telling you
to overeat on the week off. It is vitally important that you keep
your diet moderate on the week off and not undo all the work that
you have done on the week on diet. If you crave any food types like
carbohydrates or sugars then by all means eat it, just don’t eat
too much of it.
The reduction in
calories should come mainly from a reduction in the amount of
carbohydrates that you take and also an amount of fat that you
take. There is no specific guideline on how much fat or
carbohydrates that should be reduced but the literature does
indicate that you should reduce this because proteins and
vegetables should be increased in place of these. The vegetables
are important as they provide a very important source of vitamins
and minerals. The proteins should not be reduced as they are still
needed for normal cell growth and repair.
It is important
to know that this actual dieting phase is the hardest phase to
accomplish. You will firstly have to face the hunger pangs that you
are going to get. This can be reduced by consuming water to keep
your stomach full. This will only work for a short time then you
will have to rely on the food that you take in to stop the hunger
pangs from developing. Generally if you take foods that are high in
fiber, your body will take a longer time to digest it leaving less
room for you to have hunger pangs. You can also look to consumer
more proteins and fats than carbohydrates. Proteins and fats are
harder to digest and also provide a feeling of satiety which can
last for hours compared to simply eating greens and
fibers.
