The
Stages
As with other
sorts of slimming diets there are also stages with this diet. Each
stage has a different purpose. With the Starvation Diet there are 3
basic stages that one should follow to be on the safe
side.
Induction
Phase
The first stage is also called the “Induction Phase” similar to
most other diets. In this stage you are required to reduce you
caloric intake by 25% and you must double your water consumption.
This first stage is to be done for two weeks, 2 weeks on and 2
weeks of in intervals. The first stage calls for the huge increase
in water to help the body cope with the toxins that it will
produce. With a 75% reduction in your calories your body will start
to feed off its fat reserves. The problem is that over the years
when you were accumulating fat that a lot of the toxins are also
stored together with the fat. When you subject yourself to the
starvation diet and your body turning to fat for a energy source
will actually release any stored toxins into your system again. The
added water in this induction phase is to ensure that the kidneys
will function to their full ability and be able to wash away all
the toxins that you have accumulated over the years in your
fat.
Although most
would argue that cutting your calories down by 25% would hardly be
called a starvation diet, they must remember that they are only at
the beginning of the diet and thus should not be pushing their
bodies too far. It takes time for your body to adjust to the
reduction of calories and also allows the body to get rid of any
toxins that might have accumulated.
It is very
important to understand that it is at this induction stage of your
Starvation Diet that you are setting up your body for further
caloric restrictions later. You simply cannot jump straight into a
40% or a 60% reduction and expect your body to handle it well. You
will at the very least get sick due to the shock of losing so much
calories a day. As with anything biological you will have to slowly
break your body into it and have your body adapt to the change
slowly. Jumping in too early is simply a recipe for a diet that
isn’t successful.
This initial
induction phase is quite easy to follow and most people will start
to see a small reduction in body weight of about 1-3 pounds a week.
Of all the steps the induction phase is the slowest and it is quite
alright even if you do not see any change in weight. The next phase
will be much harder where you will be guaranteed of losing weight.
It is important to understand that this stage is to get your body
ready and isn’t actually the real diet where you will lose a lot of
weight.
