South Beach Diet -
Understanding What it is
The third phase
should only be entered when you are already pleased with the weight
loss that you have achieved and are looking to keep that weight for
the long term while keeping your heart and body in top condition.
When compared to both phases 1 and 2, this phase is again more
liberal so is very easy to follow. There really aren’t any
forbidden foods, rather a group or recommended foods and a group of
foods that aren’t recommended. You can eat anything in moderation
but must try your hardest to avoid foods that aren’t recommended
for you. The foods that aren’t recommended are the same ones that
you were forbidden to eat in phases 1 and 2 so it’ll be quite easy
for you to progress to phase 3 with all the “education” you
received from phases 1 and 2.
The South Beach
Diet should not be mistaken to be a low-carbohydrate diet or the
Atkin’s diet. Although the principles of limiting carbohydrates are
similar the clear distinction is that the South Beach Diet doesn’t
limit all carbohydrates but only ones with high glycemic values.
The South Beach also goes a step further by also limiting the
amount and types of fats that you can take. This is considerably
better than a simple low-carbohydrate or Atkins diet which allows
you to eat any sort of fat you want as it has been shown that
certain types of fat significantly contribute to heart
disease.
When compared to
the other diets available on the market now the South Beach Diet is
one of the most balanced and well rounded slimming diet
options available. With exception to the phase 1 diets, the
rest of the diet is very well rounded. Although a lot of the weight
loss in the induction phase of the diet will be water weight,
keeping a good count on calories and from clean foods will almost
guarantee results and a better health. Another good thing about the
South Beach Diet is that it is very comprehensive. You will be
shown in detail what foods are good and what foods are bad, and
most importantly why. You will develop an understanding of the
foods rather than simply following the diet plan
blindly.
Overall, we feel
that the South Beach Diet has many more merits than other diets
that are popular today. It is well balanced so you won’t get sick
following this diet in the long run. The benefits are quite obvious
especially to your cardiovascular system while the cons are indeed
very little except for the extra time that you are going to have to
allocated to simply learning about the food types that you should
and shouldn’t be eating. If you are looking to start a diet then
this one should be high on your list of possible
candidates.
