The problem today is that unit sizes are still being adhered too strictly while the size of the unit is increasing substantially. This means that we are still basically forcing ourselves to finish the one unit of whatever we have even though we know that the unit has grown substantially and we are definitely eating too much by finishing the unit.  Just have a look at the jumbo burgers available today as an “economy up-sized” option available. These burgers are easily 3-4 times larger than burgers we had previously when we were children yet we are still driven to finish off our unit of food.

One of the few ways to get rid of this problem is to avoid any of the economy packages or value packages from any restaurants. You definitely don’t need to buy the biggest burger or biggest plate of spaghetti all the time. Although it makes sense when you think about it, the bigger the item that you order the more you are going to eat and also the more weight you are going to put on. Instead you should concentrate on the smaller sized portions available. You can go for the “classic beef burger” or the small pack of M&Ms. You can even order from the kid’s menu if you find that all the food servings are too big for your liking.

A Change of Perception
We are all brought up to believe that eating out is something quite special and is quite a rare occasions. It is because of this belief that most of us somehow think that it is acceptable to set aside our diet guidelines for “just this time” so that you can really enjoy this rate meal out in a restaurant.

The fact is that many people are getting increasingly busy and a meal in an outside restaurant really isn’t that special or rare anymore. It wasn’t like before where you can have a nice restaurant meal once a month. These days’ families are eating out on average 4 times a week. There really is no sense in thinking that you can set aside you diet requirement every time you go out and eat. That would simply mean that you will end up eating far too much for your own good.

It is vital that today we recognize that restaurants and “eating out” are quite normal and we must adjust or perceptions accordingly. Eating out healthily and within our acceptable calorie range is vitally important. No longer can be only think about our diet when we are at home but we must also think of it when eating in any restaurant outside.
